    Grandfather Mountain Conditions

I'd like to hike grandfather mountain soon but not if their is deep snow. I have some YakTrak's which grip hard packed snow and ice well but I don't want to hike through lots of snow. Will the top likely be covered in snow until the spring?

No, there will be a span of a few days several times throughout the winter where it is covered with snow, but definitely not the whole winter or even weeks at a time. Depending on where you plan to start from, the hardest part may be navigating around the parkway closures, but that is usually only when there is snow or ice on it. Google grandfather mountain web cameras, there are a few, like this one: Grandfather Mountain View Cam - Resort Cams

Thanks, that's good to know. I wonder how the conditions will be this weekend. Based on this - N.C. Division of Parks and Recreation: - Welcome to Grandfather Mountain State Park, it sounds pretty rough, but I'm sure it will depend on how much snow the storm brings in.

I would stick to the south side in the winter. Profile is always trenched especially the first mile due to heavy traffic even when the gate is closed. If you go Grandfather Trail from the park, the descent to the gap between MaCrae and Attic window is almost always icy.
