    Farlow Gap directions

I've never ridden Farlow but would like to check it off the list this year. My goal is to find the easiest way to the top so I can ride it down and not so much to make a loop out of it if possible. Is this the best and most direct route (not counting shuttling up the FS roads)? Is that 5,000 ft of climbing all on FS roads?

FARLOW! Farlow Gap trail is considered by many to be the most technical trail in Pisgah. And you have to climb up to ride down so this ride has some long tough climbs. Have fun!

    Directions to Trail Head:
Take I-26 to exit #40 (Airport Road / Hwy 280). Turn on to Airport Rd. (Hwy 280) heading south and go 16.0 miles. Turn right on to US-276, enter Pisgah National Forest and go 5.3 miles. Bear left at the sign for the Wildlife Center on to FS 475. Follow FS 475 for 4 miles. Pass the Fish Hatchery and then pass Cove Creek Group Camp and FS 475 becomes a dirt road. The Daniel Ridge parking area is on the right.

Exit the parking area and turn right on to FS 475
At Gloucester Gap turn right on to gated FS 5003
At intersection turn left on to FS 140A
    Right on to FS 140
Right on to gated FS 5031
    Left on to FS 140A
Left on to Farlow Gap Trail
    Right on Daniel Ridge Trail
At construction site cross river and return to parking area

I think the most direct (and popular) way is to take FS 475 and then right on FS 229 (Gated) and stay on that until taking a right on to Farlow. There are also climbing and hike a bike sections on Farlow.

LaXCarp is correct, that is the most direct route. Parking at Daniel Ridge, ~ 7 miles of climbing gravel/ backwoods roadbeds to the top of the trail.

Te climb after Gloucester is an ass kicker, for me at least. But always worth the ride back down.

Shortest Loop is from Daniel Ridge parking spots (or anywhere from there to Gloucester Gap).

Shorts possible version would be getting a shuttle to Gloucester, climbing to Farlow and coming out at the Daniel Ridge parking. That would leave you with ~4 miles climbing to Farlow and the bit of climbing on Farlow itself.
