How are the trails at bent creek looking today? Muddy or fairly dry?

Muddy would be an understatement. Did a gravel ride at N. Mills and gave up 5 miles down 1206. If it wasn't deep mud it was snow-slush and ice. I can't imagine BC would be fun at all today. Just tearing up the trail and your bike too. Probably going to be that way most of this week too.

Road riding and Pabst are the way to go today...

Bent Creek is a mess as well. Took my dogs for a walk on Sidehill and it was a real slush fest. Had to turn around. Guessing it will not improve much this week unless it refreezes.

I can't believe anybody would even consider riding the trails, today. The roads aren't even melted and dry, yet.

horrible is an understatement, it needs a few warmer days to melt the snow, then a few days to dry out. Should be ready to ride in time for the next weather event.

The Mrs. went trail running this afternoon and said it was a mess. From the looks of her shoes and shins she wasnt lying. Even so she said there were plenty of folks out riding. I dont have personal recon of BC but this is what 1206 looked like at the bridge yesterday at noon...

I'd give it a few days haha.

Nothing that a week or 2 of sunshine and 80 degrees won't cure. If someone would arrange for that, that'd be great.

I might go out and ride Bent Creek tomorrow. If I get dirty, so be it. Haven't ridden in a long time.

Please stay on the gravel. You will rut up the trails even more than they already are. If you can't wait to ride a bike, get a road bike or ride the gravel. None of the trails will be anywhere near stable right now. If you absolutely feel that your desire to ride a trail is more important than everybody else's, choose an extra rocky or rooty trail in pisgah.

Looks like temps will be warming up to the low 70s by this afternoon. Trails are going to be very muddy the next few days or more since tomorrow says 90% rain and will refreeze over night (Freeze thaw in effect). Please stick to gravel roads which will also be muddy in many places and higher elevations may still have ice on them. If you do happen to be on a muddy trail please remember to go through the middle of the mud and not around to prevent widening of the single track.

I'll stick around my house. Was really hoping for some dry trails this week.

Started a run in BC yesterday and trails were rough, muddy and wet even to much to run. Saw multiple areas on explorer section where new walk/ride arounds were formed by muddy spots. Ended up running on gravel in the Arboretum.

Mind blowing to me how many folks continue to ride despite these conditions...

As a native upper Midwesterner used to frequent trail closures the mindset of some folks is baffling. Not calling out anyone in this thread, but seeing cars on 191 with bikes on them - absolutely trashed - makes me want to sit at Rice Pinnacle and tell folks what's up!

That's why I check here first. I may be asking everyday, but at least I'm making sure the trails are good. Just can't wait for them to try though.

Riding in these conditions is kind of a "slap in the face" of those who work hard to maintain them.

Due to freeze thaw conditions all roads in Greater Pisgah / Bent Creek are closed with the exception of the following. Catheys Creek, Davidson River and Avery Creek up to the stables and Bent creek road up to Ledford parking lot.

Ride before thaw. This is not rocket science. Based on the hourly forecast, I will be riding from 7:30-9:30am tomorrow. The only thing...you really really have to be off the trail before thaw starts if you're trying to avoid damaging the trail and your drivetrain.

Yup, it's a great resource... like I said earlier, not calling anyone out, but just shocked folks continue to ride.

Lower Bent Creek is about a 6 out of 10. Upper bent creek looks better, about an 8.
