    Asheville area used parts?

    Hey folks,

Is there an online or actual thrift-type store in AVL to shop for used bike parts? Somewhere like a buy/sell/trade deal going on?

I like to build up beater mtn, road, and CX bikes and typically use older parts to save some cash.

In Charlotte there was a decent FB group and the local club had a very active marketplace on their website.

Does anything like this exist in AVL...besides Craigslist?

    Thanks gang.

Sjanes is a member here who has a used bike and parts shop in AVL. I forget the name of the shop but you could PM him here for starts.

    1. Bicycle thrift shop (Stephen's- benefits Trips for Kids) . Same location as Suspension Experts. Tons of inventory, reasonably priced.
    2. The ReCyclery. Get your claptraps here! But also lots of good older stuff
    3. Second gear. Occasionally great deals, lots of crap. Who the hell would buy a used cassette?
    4. Hearn's. So much stuff...but shop carefully. Often overpriced and I wouldn't trust a complete bike purchase unless I was a damn good mechanic myself.

I have heard good things about getting parts for cheap at Hearn's. But there is a trick apparently. The trick is to use store credit. For some reason (probably because keeps him with parts) the owner is willing to make better deals if you are using store credit. So just take some stuff in you want to get rid of and just get store credit instead of cash. Then the next time you see something you want you'll have some credit.
