    Alternatives to FATS?

Greetings. I will be driving from Ohio to Florida and was thinking about stopping at FATS for a ride, but I see it's closed because of rain and next weekend looks pretty rainy as well.

Does anyone know of any good trails on the way from Ohio but in the FATS area?

Or any other advice. It looks like my route will bring me close to Charlotte and Charleston.

    Thanks.

Asheville is 1.5 -2 hours NW from Charlotte. Lot of choices there.

Thanks, can you recommend a trail for an intermediate rider, on the beginner side of intermediate. Closer to intermediate than beginner if you get what I mean.

Use the map to see trail systems all over the USA. Read descriptions, view elevation profiles, etc.

Unfortunately, I can not make a recommendation, I'm in S Fla, from what Ive seen in the forums , Dupont area trails would be closer to XC than Pisgah.

If you are traveling down I 77 pass Statesville, NC, Lake Norman State Park is a good choice. There is is a little over 30 miles of mtb trails, all singletrack. You will need to check with the park's office to see if the trails are closed due to weather. They do close after any heavy rains.

FATS is open as of today. SORBA-CSRA: Home
If you are camping I would recommend Petersburg Campground (Corp. of Eng.) which is about 10 minutes from FATS, is on the shores of Lake Thurman, and gives you access to Bartram Trail.

If you coming down I-77, stick with the FATS plan. If your heading down I-75, you might want to check out Jackrabbit for a trail like Fats. Ellijay and Coldwater mountain are also great but different from FATs.

Thanks, for the campground info. I had only checked the Hamilton Branch previously.....It appears Petersburg is much closer.

Hamilton Branch is right across from a speedway. If it is a race night it will be loud. I am a local and prefer Petersburg, followed by Mistletoe (group site or walk in) which is a good 30 minutes from FATS.

Thanks for the insight ! I really wanted to drive up and ride this weekend, but with temps hovering close to 100, I'm gonna wait.....it's cooler in S FL

Stayed at Petersburg Campground this weekend.....man, nice set-up......and with Bartram at your doorstep, there's some nice XC to be had. Got caught in the rain at FATS Sat evening, but then Sun evening trail was perfect and temps were comfortable (relative).

I rode at Kerr-Scott, loved it. The climbs were not technical, but still brutal for a person coming from South Florida.
