So I say to my wife, "Wife, Double Dare registration is open."

Wife says, "Will Snotrotter ride with you again?"

I say, "Well, I think so, but you're due to have a baby four days before the race."

Wife says, "So what? It's not like you're having the baby."

I say, "Yeah, but I'll be in the woods and completely inaccessible for two days. What if you're late and go into labor while I'm racing?"

Wife says, "Well, we'll figure it out."

We celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary yesterday. Don't you wish you had a wife as awesome as mine?

    or...

Me: I think we could pull off running a race... but it would have to be different.
Wife: How about something like the Wild 100 but Cp's in any order....
Me: I'll call the forest service tomorrow.

    or...

    Me: That went well.
Wife: Let's do a two day version
Me: How would we know they got to the checkpoints? That's a lot of stuff to put in the woods
Wife: Make them take photos to prove they were there!

    or....

Me: That went well. I wonder why we don't get more adventure racers.
Wife: They don't like the forced downtime. Let's make it so they have to ride through the night.
Me: That would be the most horrible thing ever!

Wife: "Yuri, which girlfriend are you going to ride with? Barry?"

    Me: "No, Dave."

    Hey Everybody!
Just a quick note, We will also be hosting the mtbr nc/sc forum Fall Gathering on Double Dare weekend. Come one, come all, celebrate Fall and watch racers suffer. We will have almost more wood than we can burn, lawn games, group rides, a family friendly atmosphere (during the daytime ), music, movies on the big screen, costumes, and anything else we can think of between now and then. We have both sides of Cove Creek campground so we will even have a quiet area for you to slink off to and chill out.

    Admission: FREE!

If I sign up for the race, can I switch registration at the last minute? This sounds like fun.

And is it too late to start training for this?

    Hey Everybody!

Pisgah Productions is proud to announce that the 2011 Double Dare is no longer permit pending..... It's ON! We have the signed-by-the-ranger-permit IN HAND!!!

That's right folks, the ranger has put his blessing on a two day version of PMBAR and a Fall Gathering of equally epic proportions. Come one, come all and celebrate Fall in style.

    Thanks for the bump 'mater.
Thanks to everyone who as already pre-registered. We have about half our record turn-out signed up already! The checkpoint locations have been decided, the special tests are planned (better learn those basic compass skills....mwahahaha), the truckload of wood has been ordered, and I'm pre-screening movies to find something at least as disturbing as last year!

errr.... what is the double dare? Teams of two riders will race to reach up to 10 checkpoints per day, two days in a row. The race starts at Noon Saturday with a cutoff of midnight. The race resumes at 6am Sunday with a time trial to the passports. The final cutoff is 6pm Sunday. There will be only one mandatory cp each day and there will be a special test at that checkpoint worth major points. The team with the most checkpoints, in the least amount of time, after two days wins. Teams that are out to get all 10 checkpoints each day should expect about 80 miles/12,000' of climbing per day.

    Sounds like fun, doesn't it?

So let me get this right: There is a mandatory checkpoint. There are points on offer.

    BUT ...

"The team with the most checkpoints, in the least amount of time, after two days wins."

So that means the mandatory isn't really, and the points don't matter, right?

Right. No, wait. Wrong. No wait.....

The team with the most checkpoints in the least amount of time wins.
You only need to reach the one mandatory each day to finish
If you just reach the mandatory each day it is not likely that you will win.
The bonus points are 1/2 checkpoints. So, if you reach the mandatory=1CP. If you pass the special test= 1/2 CP. If you reach both mandatory CPs and pass both special tests= 3CPs. Last year the winners came in with a total of 21 CPs (10 1/2 possible each day).
    Got it?

    Hey Double Dare racers!

We've decided that, yes, you will need a lock for your bike as a part of mandatory gear.
    You've been warned.

    Spot to Sell

Beefcake and I are trying to sell our ticket for Double Dare due to the fact that he is on crutches until mid-November. The cost is $107 -- the same as registration with no extra transfer fees. You can get in touch with either one of us to buy our ticket.
