Norco Revolver slower than Optic for XC?

My riding buddy was at the Toronto Bike show and was told by the Norco Rep that the Norco Optic is a faster XC race bike than the Revolver. Has anyone ridden both and can compare? We ride pretty flat trails here in Southern Ontario, so not much climbing and descending

    I've owned both.

This has to be a joke. The Optic was the shittiest bike I've ever owned with the Revolver being a very good and fast XC bike.

    Doubt what?

    That I've owned both?

Or that it was the shittiest bike I ever owned?

I buy about 2-3 XC bikes a year. It was the worse.

Do you even know what you are talking about?

Btw, why don't you quote my whole sentence instead or editing it. Makes you look foolish.

The optic is not a XC bike, no wonder why you don't like it!

Please read post #1, and go tell the Norco rep.

    Do people even read anymore?

Yes people still read. In fact I had a look at other Optic post. I think I know why you did not like the Optic for XC. It might be the tires you had on.

Anyway, that is weird that a Norco Rep would say such thing. The revolver should be more efficient for Xc and the Optic more plush for trail riding.

Yeah, I ran 29x2.6 Schwalbe tires. Among others like 2.25 Rocket Rons.

Keep in mind these are the same tires being outfitted on the new IBIS Ripley, which supposedly is amazing.

Meaning, the tires should have little affect on whether a bike pedals worth a damn.

    Sorry, but it"s the bike.

I owned Optic as good as it can gets, around 21-22 lb. Optic was somewhat depressing to ride. I mean indifferent. Whether you tried to accelerate or just took it easy bike felt the same. As they stated in one review "steady pedal er". Maybe suspension is too saggy and take very little input from the pedals. On performance side did not have a problem, bike was faster than it felt.

I've only talked to 3 or 4 bike reps, none of them new what they were talking about and I'm not sure any of them could actually ride well. Unless this guy was an actual XC racer, with experience on different bikes, I wouldn't consider this useful info.
