Norco dealer states that pivot play is normal in all of Norco's FS bikes. Really?

My friend bought a Norco Revolver last year. The bike has seen regular trail use and has been maintained. Over the last month, he began noticing a knocking noise coming from the rear end especially with the rear wheel weighted. He took the bike to me for an opinion and upon inspection I noticed that there was 1 mm of lateral play in the rocker link. All the bolts were tight.

So we took the bike to the LBS to check it out. According to the owner, there is always play in the pivots and there was nothing that could be done. I am not convinced. Does anyone have an idea how to remedy this?

Followup: Called Norco directly, they asked to send it in through the LBS to take a look at it under warranty; it's all good.
