New Niner Air 9 alloy reviews

Is anyone out there riding the newest version of the Air 9 alloy? I am looking for feedback from people actually riding this bike. What is it weighing in at? Do you have it as 29 or 27.5+?

Yeah, itís harsh, at least in 29er mode. When I say harsh I mean in the cheap alloy hardtail sense. I have ridden other frame materials and this one seems particularly jarring. I am trying some 27.5+ tires this weekend.

Are the completes really coming in around 28lbs? I love my 2011 SIR 9 and the new SIR 9 is still a possibility when it comes time to replace, but the Air 9 3-star build ticks a lot of the boxes I am looking for. It just seems heavy from my XC standards. I know the Fox 34 weighs more and a dropper adds weight, I am just trying to come to terms with the fact that these are not build up as lightweight race bikes and this seems to be what "modern" XC/trail hardtails are.

I built mine up SS custom and its literally a hair over 23 pounds with pedals bottle cage and whatnot.

I wouldnít say the ride is harsh, but Iím rolling in 29x2.6 Nobby Nics

I had to buy a complete bike and strip it down to the frame. I ďthinkĒ that you can order a bare frame from a couple of online euro dealers. Niner really needs to get on the stick and offer this frame as a standalone

I am riding mine as a 29er SS Fully Rigid (swapping for the fox fork when needed). Super fun bike. Wish I had kept the 3-star drive train though.

I was happy to see they are offering just the frameset now in the US.
