    Some questions regarding Nicolai frames.

    Hello everybody,
good to see a band of loyal Nicolai owners starting to grow on MTBR.

Of the Nicolai range which frame do you think best deserves the title do-it-all? I can only afford to get one bike and really want a Nicolai. For conditions here in the UK I am thinking that an Argon FR might be the best bet because I can build one up light enough to enter some endurance events as well.

Has anyone got any experience of Pace frames. This looks like a good alternative but only comes in 2 colours.

Again the Meta Commencal 5 looks pretty smokin for 2008 (link to pdf brochure)

Lastly has anyone got any insider info on the nicloai 2008 preview on August 24th?

I do not have a Nicolai but if you want a tough hardtail, Argon FR looks like the Nicolai solution. The only thing for my dimensions is that I doubt I could live with the standover clearance on the stock models. Maybe you have longer legs than I do...

I love my Banshee Scirocco (Banshee is Mythic in UK) for hardtail riding. Some might think it is a bit stiff. http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/catego...cco-frame-9908

That Mythic looks good. Is also great value for money. I am 6ft and have an inseam of 32 inches - do you think I would have a problem with standover clearance. Thanks for posting.

Are you only considering hardtails? The Argon would be a sweet ride and very versatel but the Helius-FR/CC are good all-around fullys and possibly the Nonius-CC.

If you are still thinking of Argon FR, and you are in UK, you should really get in touch with http://www.nicolai-uk.com/ or one of the dealers there. If they are any good, they'll give you real answers. I like the Argon adjustable dropouts for versatility and you can get the geometry and features tuned to your needs. And those Nicolai welds... Of course, it comes with a price tag.

Looking at an Argon FR review the Scirocco has at least one thing in common with the Argon: "not exactly the comfiest bike in the world". These tough aluminum HTs can be seriously stiff.

I have not measured my inseam but I know from experience that my 176cm/5'10", with shortish legs, is pretty happy on a TT (horizontal) close to 23" and ST (center of BB to top of TT) not much higher than 15". The Scirocco is close but I think with Nicolai I could get it exactly right.
