Trail Work Dates - Sandia Ranger District

New trail construction this spring/summer on the Sandia Ranger District. We'll be constructing a 3ish mile trail that will link Tunnel Canyon Trail to the West Ridge Trail (see map, new trail in pink). We've got most of the route flagged and it's going to be a cool trail with lots of ledges a bit of cliff edge riding and some great views into Tunnel Canyon. The following dates we'll be meeting at the Tunnel Trailhead at 9:30am and working till 2pm. With limited parking, please carpool if possible (feel free to park extra cars at the office in Tijeras).

If you plan to work, please come dressed in pants and closed toed shoes (I've had folks show up in sandals before...) and have food and water for the day - all folks will be required to wear a hardhat and gloves during the workday which will be provided (you're welcome to bring your own). PLEASE NO PETS!!

Feel free to contact me if you have questions. Otherwise, we'll see you out there.

    2012 Dates:

    *April 28 & 29
    *May 19-20
*June 2 - National Trails Day
    *June 16-17
    *July 14-15
    *Aug 18-19
*Sept 22 - National Public Lands Day
    *Oct 13-14

If the Forest is closed for fire, then we will not be working.

    Cheers,

    Kerry

    Kerry,

Is this "new trail construction" entirely new (e.g. will all of the existing trail remain) or will any part of this be a reroute?

Fuglio - We don't have any "official" rule on children and the idea of getting kids outside and involved is a great thing. However, I'd ask folks to be sure they're up to supervising their kids the entire time. Safety is number one and I've had problems with folks allowing their kids to run around the worksite while folks are swinging sharp tools, running chainsaw, etc which can endanger themselves as well as others.

Tavinotrub - Completely new trail, not a reroute.

Going to have to miss out on the first work day. Going to be in Moab and Grand Junction for 6 days. Catch you on the next work day.

I figured since Bruce wasn't going to be there. No worries.

Make sure you guys get a date pinned down to start looking at 3 bottles with us.

Since Bruce is in Moab, I figured I'd fill in for him - we're taking a lunch break, so I'll just dump a few pix here:
