    Rancho Viejo

I wanted to send out a big thank you to the crew (Henry and some others) that cleared and rebuilt the trail heading out of Rancho Viejo in the Nambe river watershed, basically, the far end of the Borrego trail. The fire and floods just wipe this area out a few years back, and I didn't think it would ever be rideable again. There are aspen's aplenty filling in and in a few years it should be nice and shady again.

Our ride started at the double discount on Pacheco Canyon, heading to Rio En Medio, then over the connector to the Rio Nambe, following the river north till you pick up the Borrego trail. Up and Up and up till you get close to Aspen Ranch, then drop the Rio en Medio, then back on the double discount. A solid 5-6 hour ride, epic! Few pics below of the start of the Borrego section that got burnt down-

Yep, we hit that same stuff but added the Mineral Trail instead of dropping back down at REM. It was really great! Those sections of the trail that either were burned or heavily eroded are in great condition.

By parking in the village of REM, we rode up REM trail to the Nambe River trail and to the confluence of the Rio Capulin, up the Borrego, passing the lower REM, up the middle REM to Aspen Ranch/Rancho Viejo, down the road to just before Pacheco, down the Mineral, back to Pacheco, and out the DD. (Never rode the DD in that direction--its great going north!) It's definitely one of the best rides in the area.

Only problem was the amazing amount of cow crap while climbing out of the Nambe River! OMG!!!
