You bunch of show offs with your fancy picture taking boxes and stunning image files. Makes a schmo feel unworthy to show up in the same thread.

This area is accessed from the El Morro Ranches subdivision. Very nice up there! Its all old logging roads, but very lightly traveled and surprisingly challenging riding. This was my first time exploring there. I was in there for 3 hours and saw not a sign of another person in there probably since the end of hunting season. Nice rock gardens, some good climbing - all around 7500 to almost 9000ft. The larger loop I plan to ride next time takes you up along the continental divide.

That pic was the lushest canyon I found - most of the rest was pretty dry, though good tree cover. Dig my old school rigid ride!

The old school rigid is awesome. I rode a bike like that on trails when visiting the South. It was really cool & brought back some fond memories of my first years of riding.

Here's a recent one from smack dab in the middle of Los Alamos believe it or not. It's called The Pueblo Canyon Rim Trail, a.k.a. Bass Ale Trail (correct me if I'm wrong Joe).

We got to the Tunnel PL about 10 min before the big storm hit. I bet we got over 2 in. up here. Still pretty wet right now.
The bottom fell out of it right as we were pulling away from the trailhead:

    Meet Neil.

He was rippin' up the N Foothills this eve, Old Skool Style on a BMX bike, cotton work gloves, his drink bottle in the front pocket of his jeans and all.

Great dude and a good rider full of Passion! :thumb:

Is that a PK Ripper that Neil is ripping it up with? Very nice! I had the same smile on my face the first time I road my Redline Monocog and then when I took my clipless pedals off my current mtn bike -- just like when I was a kid on a BMX bike.

I think that's what it was.

Afterwards we met back up with him in the High Desert Parking Lot - so I know he rode that rig up to the top where the Pino Trailhead is, then back around to the north where the pic was taken, and back to the High Desert lot. Pretty cool and he's not a youngster either.

Best thing was he was smiling the entire time we saw him.

Ahh... bad thing about taking ride pix, is that you have to stop and really take in the scenery.

Not so good if you're into "racer training" where you hammer out a ride as fast as possible so you get back to your car in the parking lot and go home, but great if you love riding for pure enjoyment like I do.

Here's one more from last evening's ride:

We went up the the CDT and rode to flat top mtn. We wanted to go further but it was so windy up there that we could barly breathe. By far the worst wind ive ever felt in my life!!! Ken knows the trail pretty well as he has worked with dagoat restoring the trail in the past. It was my 1st time up there, next year ill go up a few weeks earlier as we missed the trees in full color by about 2 weeks.

Something crazy happened to the trees here, it took about 10 min to ride through this area. It was kinda spooky to ride through, all I could hear was the trees cracking as they moved in the wind. After I think about it, we prob shouldn't have been riding next to all the dry rotted trees with how windy it was! Oh well we lived!!!

Gorgeous day to ride. But I had just put on new cleats, didn't try them out, and found it was really, really hard to unclip. Of the four tumbles, one on FOO climb had me thrashing in the middle of a little oak by the side of the trail, one foot still stuck to the pedal. So I was glad I went early before all you Trail Pix guys showed up. By the time I got free and out of the oak, the little tree was pretty much destroyed. Also tossed a rock I had loosened off the trail. All this not too far from a sign warning not to move rocks or destroy vegetation. With a cluster of APD's finest parked at the trailhead I considered self-reporting but without pictorial evidence...

    Thanks

Not sure if i missed this line before, maybe it didn't exist a while back... but on my way up from the parking lot at the end of Menaul (?) heading up towards the dam I took a spur that was higher up to the left.

It had a lot more turns, ups&downs and made that segment more fun than the lower line. BUT, I ended up on the wrong side of the fence up by the wilderness boundary? Was I treading where I ought not to?

Killer pictures on this thread. They make me really jealous. I lived for 3 years in NM and didn't get into MTB until after I moved. We have some nice trails here in Kansas City but nothing like the red rocks and mesas out there.....really miss it.

Its actually a lot more bunnyhop than "jump" - wheels are about waist-height and I just barely make it to the "landing" if you're familiar with that hit.

Next time I'm up there I'd like to try it over the larger doubles after than hip to the right jump...

That third shot is my fave. The SFH has lots of views that are half crazy mountain half sprawling city. Its that split second that you escape from the sprawl that i ride for. If im feeling the flow its easy to look out at the city and deny that i have any part in it and feel seperate from it.... good shot.

How could you not post this stunning photo up here? Truely amazing (and it's my computer desktop now). Thanks to the SFe Fat Tire Socity FB page for the link.

    Good pic Chase.

Here's a self-pic from the N Foothills (in the style of JHazard, but I have a LONG way to go to be 1/4 as good):

    Bike Park...

Hit up the bike park with some familiar faces Friday. Got schooled on the skinnies too!

Bry made it up the odd entrance and cleaned it, I didn't get quite that far...

Did manage a 1-footed X Up on the little ones though

and eked out a small ride on the wall... bigger next time

I know Fuglio got a little footage, maybe he'll post up. I followed him across the first one in the big line - thanks!

    Northside Trails

Mountain Biking in Taos, New Mexico - Northside at Taos Ski Valley
Rode here yesterday for the first time... Nicely built and developed trails, the moderately steep 1.5 mile climb at the bottom leads to some of the best high alpine single and double tracks I've ridden in the southern Rockies. Well worth $50 for a season pass considering it's private property sandwiched between the Wheeler Peak Wilderness and the Columbine Hondo WSA.
