    Hello New Mexico!!

if things work out, i'll be moving to the Los Alamos area or somewhere somewhat close to Los Alamos sometime in the next few months. I've been google searching for trails. I'm looking forward to the ski resort right next door! Giddy Up

Good for you, I can't wait to get out of mass and get to nm. Unfortunately I have to wait until next summer. We have had really odd weather this year too so I'm guessing my last winter here could get pretty interesting. I'm curious how you are going to like it compared to the northeast. I'm sure it's going to be 100 times better than Albany, not that Albany sets the bar very high hahahahaha

I've lived in Minot, ND.. Layton, UT.. Lompoc, Ca and Great Falls, MT .. Los Alamos is High Desert. weather will be comparable to UT but not as hot do to the higher altitude. Southern end of the Colorado Rockies to the west, desert'ish to the east.. Moab is about 6-7hrs away, Colorado just north. I think i'll like it

I moved to Los Alamos two years ago. Came out from the east coast. I'm starting back up mountain biking in the next month or so. This is a great place to live if you like the outdoors.

Minot ND? Oof, our family has a big farm not far from there and the winter are brutal!

The riding in and around LA is awesome, you'll love it. And yes, Moab is right around 6 hours away and same with Sedona for wintertime blues. Enjoy!

the face to face interview last week was pretty much as I expected. it was no different than the phone interview so I'm guessing they just wanted to physically see me and my attitude. pretty nice area and close to the mountains. they will let me know in a week or two

Hey - send me a PM. I can show ya a few trails around town if you want. I mostly ride on the east side of town.

The NM MVD can be painful (make sure you have all your paperwork you need). Not sure they care one way or the other about all that other stuff though.

No safety inspection required. Smog testing only in Bernalillo County if I remember right.

    Most counties have smog/emissions.
You will need to have a vehicle inspected if youre registering it here from another state.
Emissions tests will be sniff and visual. Suspensions and bolt on bullshit doesnt matter.

Here's what the DMV says about emissions testing.

    https://www.dmv.org/nm-new-mexico/smog

Coming to Los Alamos from MD I didn't have to do emissions or safety inspection. Completely different from MD.

Oh, forgot to mention. The local IMBA chapter is Tuff Riders: Tuff Riders Mountain Bike Club

They do several rides a week, in 3 categories of fitness / skill. The groups can be a little big at times (what can I say, MTB is pretty popular here). It'll take a little while getting used to the elevation here, but you can learn the trails in the meanwhile.

Thanks for the info Nate. In about 3 weeks the funds become available for a mtb. I'll have to look for an old, fat guys group ride.
