Bike recommendations for riding East mountains

Iím thinking about getting a full suspension bike in the next year or so. Iíve only owned hardtails over the last 20 years and rented a Pivot Trail 429 this past October as my only full suspension riding experience. Iíve been doing a ton of research, but if I demo every bike out these that sounds promising, Iíll spend a grip just doing that. So I was hoping to hear some recommendations for a FS bike to ride mostly in the Otero canyon area with some trips up to Salida and Durango. Iíd like something that climbs the techy rock stuff out there but also decends decent as well. Not hitting any big jumps, just small little kickers here and there.

What are some of you riding? how much travel do you think is appropriate?

Anything in the 130-140 mm range that didn't come from Walmart.
