    Angel Fire opening weekend

So I'm thinking about heading up for opening weekend, but what can I expect? Is it usually a nightmare? Am I going to drive 300 miles round trip to stand in line all day and only get in 3 runs or is it not that bad? The parks back east usually sucked if they were busy, but the parks were smaller and lifts were slower than angel fire. I really want to go but I don't want it to be a waste of time.

They have a high speed lift, limited by bike tray capacity. I've had 7+ runs on opening weekend. Depending on snow levels, trail selection at upper levels can be limited. I have a 450 mi round trip and will wait an additional week or two to let the show melt.

Yeah, they can get busy with long lines, but as stated, they move quickly. I believe the bike season starts May 17. The following week is Demo Daze. I'd avoid Demo Daze because it really does get busy. Unless you are wanting to check out bikes.

Northern NM has had a good winter with lots of snow pack in areas. I'd wait a few weeks just to allow more time for the trails to drain.

Demo Daze is the only time I have ever waited more than 10 minutes to get on the lift. I have not really been to many of the bigger events though. Trying to get a bike on Demo Daze is pretty rough though, hours wait.

You will have no problem opening, or pretty much any other weekend as far as lift lines.
Since we actually got more than 6 inches of snow this year though, conditions up top could be bad. Some people like riding in mud, I do not.

Thanks for the info guys, I was planning on going the 18th, maybe I'll call up there on the 17th and ask about trail conditions before I drive up for a mud fest

Definitely a great idea. Parts of northern NM just got hit with weather so lingering snow is possible if not likely well into May.

I've never had line problems @ Angelfire, and everyone is really chill.
I've got 229 miles door-to-door, and I plan on hitting it Opening Day.
it's likely to be a little chilly still, and some mud.
Who knows - but no great story ever began with, 'I decided to play it safe...'

    Dust shouldn't be a problem.

I'm not sure opening weekend is going to happen. I hope its ok by Memorial weekend, we've already got 3 nights booked up there.

    We the people ...

From their FB page: "Unfortunately, due to the recent weather and the current forecast predictions for the next 5 days, we are forced to reschedule 2019 Bike Park Opening Weekend to May 24th. Please understand safety plays a considerable role when making this decision and the wellbeing of our guest, which is extremely important as well. We are as bummed as you.

On the positive side, the 10-day weather predication is looking very promising! Our bike park team will devote their time to create the best product we can for Opening Day! Fire 5 #1& 2019 Demo Daze will be one to remember!

Here's a photo from last week, when we received over 20" at the base. Please help spread the word! We’ll see you next weekend."
