Advice Needed - NW New Mexico

We are moving back to the four corners area after 10 years of absence and looking for advice. Two questions (ignoring all other variables and only considering mtb trail quality):

    1. Should one live in Aztec or Farmington for the best local trails (i.e. Road apple vs alien run)?

    2. Would it be worth a 50 min commute to live in durango and enjoy their superior trails?

BTW - we previously lived in Aztec and I remember Alien run being a better ride than farmington, but it has been a decade.

Imo, its a wash between the two, trail-wise. Alien is marginally better, but both are outclassed by Durango.

If you ride 3 or more days a week, you may consider commuting from Durango (but it's a sketchy drive during winter storms, if which you can expect many).

Cortez is a cool little town with some awesome homes out towards the Mancos/Dolores area. That'd be my pick over Durango these days.

    A much safer commute also.

Good point. At peak hours, Durango turns into gridlock these days. Too many people trying to cram into a narrow valley. The price of popularity.

Yea, whats with that traffic? I was shocked it took me 30 minutes coming in via 160 to pass through back to NM.
