    Used Fantom Comp pricing question

Local ad has one for sale with following options

    LX Shifters / FR Derailleur
Avid Mechanical Disc Brakes / Levers
    Stainless Double Butted Spokes 32fr/32r
    M-Wings Team Issue 6061 Aluminum 160g Bar

From the pictures it looks like a Rock Shox Tora fork

ad is asking $675 OBO. bikesdirect range on fantom frames is $599-$999

Seems priced high to me but I don't know a lot about MTB components. Thoughts?

Yesterday I recieved a new 2010 fantom comp for $699.Hyd. brakes, tora uturn, slx and xt mix. What year? hardtail? I'd say it's high. If you like the bike and don't mind the mech. brake Make an offer.

I just got a response back. it's an 08, 26" wheels and a hard tail. I don't mind doing wrenching just looking for a good deal before I drop a lot on a mtn bike

That sounds really high for a used bike....

I wouldn't expect to get more than 60% of the original cost on a re-sale... for ANY bike!

I'd try to save up a few more bucks and get a new one from bikesdirect, or talk the price down to around 500 max

Offer him 250 , that is about what a used one is worth unless it has been ridiculously upgraded .

I always figure 50% of MSRP is where to start. If it's in really good shape or has had some upgrades then I would consider going higher than that. For reference I bought a 2009 Trek Soho for $899. I sold it about a year later for $750 in pretty much new condition. And I had to wait a good 3-4 weeks to find a buyer willing to pay that.

Keep in mind that used bikes rarely carry the manufacturer warranty, so you're on your own for any breakage or maintenance.

If it fits, rides well and doesn't look beat up I'd say that is priced about right.
