Torn between Fantom Pro or Cliff 29R Team...

Ok here's the deal. I am on a Diamondback $300 special I bought a few years ago at the LBS to see if I would like to ride. I do, and have been working on getting into better shape. I am 6'3 and 230 lbs. My Diamondback is a frame size 22, which I wish I would have went smaller.
So for the last few months I have been doing all the research I can, and have it narrowed down to two bikes:

Windsor Cliff29 Team Mountain Bike with SRAM X9
    http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/...liff29team.htm

    Motobecane Fantom PRO
    http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/...ntom_pro08.htm

I am leaning towards the 29er, I think more because of my size. I could be flawed in my thinking though on that.

On the Diamondback, the wife (she is on a Trek WSD) and I have just been riding paved bike paths in the area (about 10 miles when we ride). I want to step up to off-pavement trails and riding with the local club now, but I know the Diamondback is not up to the task. Heck, the fork can't even handle paved trails.

Am I thinking right that one of these two bikes would be a great upgrade for me? I know I should support my LBS, and I still will. I bought my bike carrier, apparel and more from them as well as the Diamondback. I will buy my shoes and a new helmet from them as well as anything else I need. I just don't care for the brands they offer for a replacement bike.

Thanks in advance for any help.

The 29er they only offer in a large, which by measurement I think is a 20. I wear a 32" inseam pant, is that the same as my bike inseam?
