Sizing for Moto Night Train Bullet (I'm 5'10")

So I'm pretty sold on a Night Train Bullet for snow and crappy winter/early spring conditions in rocky/rooty Connecticut. I like the Mulefuts, Bluto, 4.8 Minions and others can't come near Bike Direct's prices. Past experience with a Ti 29er Motobecane were great.

It is clear that BD recommends a 17.5 inch bike for 5'8" to 6'0" tall, so I should be smack in the middle of that range.

Any experience out there from folks that are 5'10"? I'm concerned about being cramped, as I generally like to be spread out and don't like long stems. The top tube on the NTB seems short (575, or 598 effective).

I'd go 19 inches, but probably most concerned about standover (I wear 31 inseam pants).

I ride my friend's large Spec Fatboy, and definitely would not want to go down to the medium. The Fatboy's geometry seems more consistent with the larger 19 NightTrain.

Any feedback appreciated. I've looked, but am not finding comments here. Thanks!

I would always go bigger myself than smaller. If I'm looking at the correct bike; the stems start at 90mm for Small(15.5) and go up to 120mm for XL(21). I'm a fan of shorter stems for sharper steering so going up a size would allow you to put on a shorter stem. Standover has never been an issue for me since I always tend to start off onto one side, then sling my leg over after a half-pedal. Besides how many times have you stopped on a trail that's uneven or a hill, and you have to dismount anyway because the top tube is up your groin?
