    Pedal size on 600HT

    Hi everyone,

I recently purchased a 2010 Motobecane 600 HT through my local classifieds for $350, it only having been used once. It has these cruddy "ATB Beartrap platform" pedals, and I've torn up my shins a few times while riding.

It is time for new pedals, and all the bikes on Moto's website list 9/16" pedals, but not for the 400/500/600/700 HT - they just say "ATB Beartrap platform."

Does anyone know from experience if these are also 9/16" or are they 1/2"?

By the way, I'm buying Diamondback Sound Pedals 9/16" from Amazon as replacements, assuming 9/16" is the right size. But then what size pedal wrench do I need? 15mm or 9/16"? I hope someone knows and can help me.

1/2' pedals are for one piece cranks. All modern 3 piece cranks (many are now 2 piece though) use 9/16". You need a 15mm wrench to actually put them on or remove them. It seems a little counter intuitive I know. Also don't forget that the non-drive side crank uses reverse threads.

Is a pedal wrench generally the only way to remove and install pedals?

A regular 15mm wrench normally works well, but a good pedal wrench does work better. My pedals all can be removed with allen wrenches, which I find much better than a wrench.
