Motobecane Fantom X7 vs. Trek Mamba
I'm new to the sport and trying to decide between a Fantom X7 and a Trek Mamba. Price is about the same ($900), but the msrp for the Motobecane is $1995. Is this really a $2000 bike? Trying to research some of the components of each bike, but having a hard time. Any advice would be appreciated.

As I stated in the Beginners Forum, Motobecanes "MSRP"listed is bogus marketing material. No, it is not a $2000 bike, but to compare it to Treks lineup it looks like about a $1300 Bike. The drivetrain (shifters, derailleurs and crank) are on par with the $1550 Xcalibur, but the fork is the same as the $1150 Cobia. Therefore I would put it in the middle of those 2 models.

please dont look at the price at this point. Look what each bike offer you. I also looked at Trek paragon 2011 but it was too big for me (5'4")...when I found out about Motobecane pro29sl with XTR/XT gears i knew it was the top of the line for the gears.
You need to look both on the gears and brakes and see who offere the best, not the frame.
    good luck!
