    How is it pronounced?

How is "Motobecane" pronounced? Is it:

    1) Moto-bee-cain with emphasis on the "moto"?

    2) Mah-ta-beh-can with emphasis on the "ta"?

    3) Something else?

I've been going with #1, but recently I met a fellow who pronounces the name more like my #2 choice above. What's the real story here?

I avoid saying it.ex:my new bike, the gray bike, look his bike is the same brand as mine,so you are buying the same brand bike as mine?
I get asked often how to pronounce it.I'm not sure how to say it correctly though.

Motos-be-crap. emphasis on crap. Sort of a inner city street phrase. Example: Motos, they be the crap. Which translates to Motos are crap

Its a French name, so you probabaly should ask someone who speaks French. I just use the first pronunciation you listed.

French pronounciation is much closer to:
    2) Mah-ta-beh-can
    .

By mixing the 2 proposed pronounciations you come with this one: Moto-beh-can. It's even closer.

    MOTOBE-chan or moto-be-con...

I was at the LBS yesterday here in Taos, NM and the shop owner corrected me when I told him I was considering a "MOTO-be-cane". He said, "moto-be-chan" or "moto-be-con". I had two years of French in high school and I really can not tell you for sure. I just like to pronounce in an English way so I don't come across as a Frenchy snob...LOL!

open forum, members can post anything they want(haven't been kicked off the board yet). You can ignore or reply. The fact that you replied leads me to believe that you have taken criticism for before for riding a Moto-be -Pratt(funny ,rhymes with crap). And you feel you must defend. There's a guy I work with who purchased a Schwinn from Waltucky, and he constantly argues that it is the best bike made I see a comparison
