2014 Fantom DS 29er Brake Replacement (Avid Elixirs)

I have a 2014 Fantom DS 29er and have gotten the notorious moisture/air leak the Avid Elixirs are known for (from what I've gathered troubleshooting these brakes). My LBS is recommending replacing the brakes, as they have noticed problems with the Elixirs as well in their shop, and bleeding the brakes will not guarantee fixing the problem.

Wanted to see what others might have replaced the Avids with. My LBS is recommending the Shimano Deore or LXS models.

If anyone has had success bleeding the Elixirs and solving the piston problem, that would be good to know as well.

I'd read up on bleeding the brakes and try it myself at least. Make sure you remove the brake pads though. don't want oil to get on the pads. Considering the cost of brake fluid, some plastic fishtank tubing, and syringe from the pharmacy, not that expensive.

For new brakes, schimano hydraulics are hard to beat.
