    2010 Motobecane Fantom Team Review

    Hello all,

A friend of mine is just getting into mountain biking so I decided to point him to the Motobecane Fantom Team as his first bike. I am going to be posting on my blog to share our entire experience from the purchase process to the first ride and even beyond that. I think it's about time there was a thorough review of the bike direct bikes because as a consumer I have been unable to find anything overly convincing that I can be certain was not written by someone with ulterior motives.

Here is the link to my first post. It talks about why we decided to go with the Motobecane Fantom Team and the current status of the order.

I like what you are doing, keep it up. The one thing I would say is I personally would not put 2.35 Nevegals on that bike. I had a pair of the DTCs and they are slow as molasses. They have great traction, but IMHO just too slow to put on such a light bike. I now use 2.3 Specialized Eskar tires, which are a true 2.3 with tons of traction but roll way faster than Nevegals. But you are definitely going in the right direction. Those Kenda Klimax tires are actually 1.75s despite being labeled a 1.95 and are basically useless for real mountian biking. The frame is generic, but they ride nice. My only beef is that it is around 7lbs, so it is not a light weight frame.

I purchased the Motobecane 700DS with full suspension and was extremly happy with its handling and shifting. The bonus was the option to turn the suspension on and off while I was riding within seconds. To put it to the test I used it in the mountains of North Ga. Once again it handled fantastic!!! I would highly suggest this Mountain Bike for anyone getting into the sport!

I received the bike on time and as promised (this past Tuesday). I was on travel so I was only able to get it to the bike shop yesterday. They are assembling it now and it should be done tonight, although I am not sure I will be able to pick it up until Tuesday the earliest.

Cool, keep us posted on the build and what you think about the bike. I'm going to be upgrading this winter and am on the fence between a FS 26" or moving my 29er parts over to a FS 29er frame.
