Visitor looking for places to ride

Will be in Minneapolis, Duluth, ely, and Madeline islands. Am camping at Lebanon hills. Any other places to check out trails? Understand spirit mountain has some trails? What else?

Oh and is there any chance anyone in that area has a Canfield EPO I could look at? Am considering building one up. Would be awesome to see what it looks like in person.

Piedmont in Duluth, and a host of trails in the Twin Cities near Lebanon. Check morcmtb.org

Will do. What is Piedmont like? Does anyone rent bikes in Minneapolis or Duluth?

Technical root and semi rocky. Not much elevation change though.

And of course - the trails have been fogged to kill the Mosquitos right?

Duluth is good, you will want to check out COGGS site for maps and info.

Don't forget Cuyuna. A bit of a detour between the Cities and Duluth, but worth it.

Penn rents bikes in the Twin Cities, Cycle Path and Ski does in Crosby if you go to Cuyuna. Bikes Rented at Spirit Mountain for the lift serve, not sure about the rest of town.

Arrived in Minneapolis today. A day early. We have reservations at Lebanon hills campground starting tomorrow. And it is full tonight! So off to find cheap accommodations!

Got to ride Lebanon hills yesterday. The weather was great. It was my wife, my five year old and me. I rode alone while they toodled around on the green trail and the skills track. I quickly got lost and had to backtrack on the ski trails to get to the outer blue trails. This is very different than the trails in Arkansas. It feels very manufactured. The technical sections looked man made. That was actually kind of cool.

After I made a loop around, my wife took her turn and I rode the green loop with kiddo.

I think the skills track was cool and the green loop was a blast for him.

Pretty neat trails once you figure out the signing. I'd like to explore more but we are socked in with the mother of all rain storms.

Not sure if we will get to ride again here before heading north to Duluth. Can't wait to see the trails on spirit mountain. Unfortunately, we won't be able to check out cuyuna lakes.

You are going to regret that.

I'm not suggesting skipping Duluth. Duluth is amazin-balls. But if you have a family with you the one thing you will discover that its sort of spread out. You quickly realize its either pile into the car to get this spot or that spot, or leave people behind that can't handle the 4 mile of trail shuttling to the next section as you bang down parts of the Traverse or just do the same 3 trails for a day.

I would suggest finding a way to add Cuyuna to your list.

Yeah. We played with the itinerary but already have reservations in Duluth and then ely, then back to Duluth and then over to Madeline Island and back to Minneapolis before heading home.

But next year we will work it into the plan!

For Duluth trails, check out mtbproject.com, it's quite up to date with trail maps and descriptions, even a few photo's. The family friendly designation and search are updated now too.
