NATIONAL TRAILS DAY - WI - Events

Next Saturday is National Trails Day! National Trails Day® is a celebration of trails that evolved from the report of the President's Commission on Americans Outdoors. In 1987, the report recommended that all Americans be able to go out their front doors and within fifteen minutes, be on trails that wind through their cities or towns and bring them back without retracing steps. The recommendation, dubbed Trails for All Americans, became the impetus behind launching National Trails Day® in 1993.

Trails do not just appear for our enjoyment, it takes many hours of planning, labor, and negotiating to develop them. National Trails Day®, the only nationwide celebration of trails, brings awareness to trails and thanks many people and partners for their support and hard work, including volunteers, land agencies, and outdoor minded businesses. It is also a day to introduce people to the many joys and benefits of trails.

So if you've wanted to meet and thank the folks that build and maintain the trails we all ride, this is your golden opportunity.

My goal (for this thread) is to compile a list of as many of the National Trails Day® events across the state, so we can all become acquainted with our local trail group(s)......

    Corp 2010

CORP (www.madcitydirt.org) and City Of Middleton are moving the celebration to June 19 where it will be the grand opening of the Middleton Bike Skills Park and Middleton's "Big Event".

The day will be split between a dedication for several new trail and public lands projects in the morning at Fireman's Park and riding at the bike park in the afternoon. Details will follow.

The bike park is at Pleasant View Golf Course. We will ride and enjoy the clubhouse, and hope to see you there.

In the meanwhile: We need to finish the single track and various elements of the bike park. Please watch the madcitydirt.org forums for work announcements. You can be sure somebody will be working on the trails June 5.

The Southern Kettle Moraine chapter of WORBA aka - the especially crazy irregular trail building crew’s (last official) workaday is this Saturday, June 5th, aka - national trails day! This is the day that each and every one of our volunteers is cordially invited to come and celebrate all of the fine work that we’ve accomplished together. The LaGrange General Store supplies delicious lunchtime treats, along with ice cold beverages for everyone to enjoy after the workday. I’m pretty sure that TBDave will have some trix up his sleeve along with more trail crew shirts (see above) to hand out for folks that have come to 4 or more work days. The prize(s) for this week's drawing(s) are rumored to be awesome. So if you've come to any of our work days come out and be celebrated!
