    Minneapolis for a week -- rent/ship/beg/borrow/steal?

    Hey, wise locals!

I'm in Minneapolis June 5-9 for a work trip, staying on the university campus, no car. I want to ride dirt one way or another ... but it looks like renting a mountain bike for a day would cost the same as shipping my cyclocross bike out there for the full week. What would you do?

Or to rephrase the question ... are there trails you like in riding distance of campus, and are they plausible on a cross bike? (Can't ship my MTB because I need it this weekend. Ok, "want," not "need.")

Thanks for any thoughts; I am totally ignorant/Californian.

So I've seen people ride Theodore Wirth with a cross bike. Its on the west side of Minneapolis. You could probably call One on One bikes and see what rental deals they have going on.

You can take the train to downtown Minneapolis from campus and then ride bike paths to Theodore Wirth Park. Post something on the MORC forums and see if anyone has a bike they can borrow you or info on a rental.

You could take the light rail down to minnehaha falls area and rent one of those 40lb niceride things and ride the trail down to Fort Snelling park.
