If you only had one day to ride in the Twin Cities

I'm going to be visiting St Paul next weekend and I've got one day to ride.

Where would you suggest riding? I'm after something typically 'characteristic' of Minesota because I'm coming out from Asia and have never ridden that part of the US before. I'm guessing that Minnesota is mainly about flowy cross country rather than the rock-and-concrete-step trails out here in Hong Kong, so I'm looking forward to it.

I've had a look at http://www.morcmtb.org/trailreviews/metro/index.html and so far Battle Creek, Lebanon Hills and Afton have presented themselves as opportunities.

Oh, and where would you suggest to look for bike rental? REI or a slightly more specialist place?

    Many thanks.

Well, Lebanon is the "crown jewel" of MORC so be sure to hit that. Battle Creek is a good trail system with more climbing than Leb. I don't Afton is open for general use - race events only.

Depending on your size and preference you may be able to bum a bike off a local who even might be willing to show you around.

Post up on MORC - quite a friendly group.

Soupboy- thanks for the tips. Lebanon it is then, and I'll check with MORC then.

Martini- what's wrong with Afton? I know it's paid, but that doesn't bother me much.

Afton IS open for riding but at $9 per day. If you love climbing, this is the place for you. And if you love rough single track, this is also the place for you.

Battle creek do have climbs but is incoherent at time due to no trail markings, dead ends and 2 way.

Another vote for Leb. Have fun.

If your coming all the from asia ride the bike paths in minneapolis.

If you have to ride on dirt hit the river bottoms.

I personally can't stand riding at Afton. The combination of marginal trails and having to pay kill it for me. Leb, Murphy, Battle Creek, RB, Salem, they're all WAY better than Afton.
