    Bayfield fire roads, easy trails

My wife and I are heading from the Twin Cities to Bayfield in mid October. Anyone know of good easy trails or fire roads that would get us back in the woods?

I recommend the forest roads in the Chequamegon NF. There are nice areas southwest of Bayfield, extending south to Delta, Drummond and Clam Lake. Some of the roads can be sandy, but most are very good. The area north of Clam Lake can include some challenging hills, as this is the Penokee Range. A person could spend many years exploring the roads of the Chequamegon. A specific area I like is south of Ashland about 20 miles-combine biking with hiking to Morgan's Falls/St. Peter's Dome or part of the North Country Trail to the old Swedish settlement.
