    BALLS the 3rd....planning phase...

It's time to start getting names for the 3rd annual running of BALLS. What is BALLS? A big long two day adventure on bikes. Limited lodging where we have stayed the last two years so I am looking for other options. Putting out a feeler to start getting an idea of how many riders to plan for. Don't have the BALLS for Trans-Iowa.....we've got another option for ya! Detials and route below.

    Thanks,

    Bear

    When - April 24th and 25th.....details below:

Where does the ride start and end?
    -My house
-bathrooms, water, room to change, etc. all available.
-leaving a car is not a problem.

What time do we start riding?
    -wheels rolling at 7am sharp

    What is the route?
    -First half: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=1500895
    -Second half: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=1500901

    What trail passes are required?
-WI DNR state trail pass covers Military Ridge, Sugar River, and Badger State Trail
-Cheese Country Trail has it's own pass ($8 or $15) I don't recall the price
-We will make a stop in Mineral Point for Cheese Country Stickers

    What about inclement weather?
-as much as I hate rain and cold we ride no matter what.
-you did see last years pictures......right?

    What's the pace?
-Not fast but deliberate as we do need to cover 100 miles.
-Ride however fast you want as the route is easy to follow
-It is a social ride so with stops, conversation, etc.....we should be in Brodhead about 5pm

What's this Earthrider place we are staying at?
    -super sweet bike shop/hotel combo

Damn I'm going to be hungry when we get done riding, what's for supper?
-good little restaruant/bar across the street (steaks, sandwiches, etc.)
-has changed hands since last year but it sounds like it's still a safe bet.

    What is everybody riding?
    -Cyclocross bikes
    -26" full suspension
    -touring bikes
    -29" mountain bikes

    Anything else I should know?
-bring a light for the tunnel of hate on Sundays return trip
-my wifes vehicle will serve as SAG wagon on Saturday

    Any questions?

Sign up sheet? Cost? Is there any off road riding or is it tarmac and rail trails? Camping option?

    Ahhh....where to find more info...

Looks like I left off the link to more info:

As far as cost goes there is lodging for Saturday night. No entry fee. No support....we just hit gas stations along the route.

I think last year the two days totalled about 170 miles and I think I was on pavement for less than 10 miles. It's almost entirely good rail trail or crappy converted ATV rail trail. Very flat. The weather has been total crap the last two years.

It's good long early season challenge.

I'm trying to work on lodging so we can accomodate more riders.

As snow is covering the streets now, I'm thinking about next seasons rides. This one is high on the list. I'm gonna have to see if I can fit it in.
    Just a regular guy.

    Update....

    Lodging has been secured.

We've got six cabins and four cottages at Crazy Horse Campground (http://www.crazyhorsewi.com/) just outside of Brodhead. The lodging goes a little something like this:

Cabins - two bunk beds and a queen, heat/air.

Cottages - two bunk beds and a queen, heat/air, toilet, shower, cooking facilities.

We'll need to bring our own bedding so transportation of sleeping bags and gear will be arranged prior to the event. I don't foresee this as being a problem as my wife can carry a load and we should be able to find another.

I am asking for a $20 payment to secure your place. The $20 will be the TOTAL (you'll owe nothing else) cost of lodging if we get 25 riders. Get 50 riders and it drops to $10 (start recruiting). This is the moment that seperates the men from the boys. Whoever pays up has made the committment. The CORP paypal account or my home address is fine. Checks payable to CORP. Paypal is at www.madcitydirt.org....just find the link....otherwise PM me for alternative payment.

    Who's in!?!?!

    Deadline and limit...

Limit is 50 riders - we don't have lodging for more than that.

Deadline - not really. But if you put it on your calendar the $20 would be great to offset the lodging charge!

    See you there,

    Bear
