    Anyone run the Lutsen 99er?

Just wondering if anyone ran it, volunteered or spectated and how it was... Saw it in Lutsen's website and was intrigued. Thinking about maybe trying it out next year if I can come up with a bike worthy of it! lol

Two of my riding friends did the 39er part of the race. Other than a good finish, they were not impressed. Lots of road (blacktop), fire road, double track, followed by swampy hardly rideable field. Not very many people raced either.

I did the 39er too. As I did not get into Chequamegon Forty race. Yes, just like above there were about 10 to 12 miles of pavement. The whole race (39er) as I see it though, the blacktop start can be taken advantage of to get your speed. As you turn towards the Caribou trail, it is still pavement but it is forever climb. After the Caribou trail climb, the start of the gravel road. I hate the loose gravel but at least it is dirt road, there is about 7 miles of ATV trails that I'd consider the most technical part. The muddy part that was non rideable possibly about a 4th of a mile or even less.
It has less crowd than the Chequamegon Fat tire race, so at the beginning of the race you can gain to your top speed.
As I heard at the beginning of the race, they will have another one next year.
