Lake County and Mchenry County riding areas?

I live in Gurnee, and im in Mchenry County almost every weekend. As of now (just started riding a month ago) all I ride is the Chain o lakes state park... but thats a pretty small area, and not to exciting. I would like to ride xc, but something a little more challenging (not some crazy all mountain, but not a state park trail). Any ideas?

Go to Kettle Moraine state forest outside of LaGrange, Wisconsin. Easily accessible via route 12.

Another option is Rock Cut State Park in Rockford. There is double track but some really nice single track. Go to rctrailcrew.org for maps or post on forum to connect with locals for some group rides. They are also on Facebook.

This is my suggestion as well. There's also supposedly some trails in lake Geneva but I'm unsure if they're open to anyone or not.

yes there is a trail system in lk geneva called lake geneva canopy tours. they are a zip line course that have been cool enough to let us build trail under their course. we currently have a 3 mile loop with an additional 2 mile perimiter (of the property) trail that connects back to the 3 mile loop and a not quite finished technical trail . the canopy tour office is located at hwy H and NN just outside of lk geneva towards lk como . there is a $2 thanx for letting us build and ride fee

That's at Grand Geneva, which outside of the WORS race really isn't open to mountain biking.

Been meaning to ask about these. Did the canopy/zip tour couple of weeks ag (which was awesome!). Noticed the trails, and zip guides seemed pretty pumped about you guys building them. $2 seems quite fair to ride. Took a few pics while we were there. The skinny under a suspension bridge

Tho like the others I suggest heading up to the South Kettles/Muir trails. I grew up in Lake County and think this would be a no brained easy drive. Scenic too
