Any decent mountain bike trails open in Indianapolis during the winter?

    All of them are.

That said, the rule is to ride them only when they are frozen or dry. They will start to thaw when temps are well into the 20s if it's sunny. And even when it's not, they will still begin thawing before air temps break above freezing. The soil there is very heavy clay, and you don't want to mess with freeze/thaw clay.

So that oftentimes means early morning rides, as none of the trails in the city are open for night riding (you will have to drive a bit to get to trails where night riding is permitted).

If it's above freezing for awhile, it takes extra long for the trails to dry out after any moisture (either rain or snow).

We try to keep MTB Project updated with trail status, but you can always check trail status on hmba.org. This will include all the Indiana trails, but some of the lesser traveled ones are not updated as frequently as they should be. As Harold said, they are all open provided it is not muddy.

Brown County State Park specifically has a Facebook page which posts trail status for every weekend.

Thank you for the help. Where's the best place to find a list of all the trails in the area?

MTBProject probably has the best coverage for the area. I submitted most of the trails in central IN to that site. No single resource will be 100% complete, though. Trailforks has better coverage in some areas. I think the folks at Griffin in Terre Haute have focused on using Trailforks, for example.
