We are capitalizing on the 2009 North American Handmade Bicycle Show, by holding the HMBA annual meeting at the Indianapolis Convention Center the same weekend as the Bike Show. Come to Indy and check out the Bike show and stay for the HMBA annual meeting. With break out session throughout the day, you can split you day between the show and HMBA meetings.

Public access for the NAHBS will be from 11 AM to 6 PM Friday and Saturday, with 9 AM until 11 AM on those days restricted to Industry and Media. Sunday will be from 10 AM until 5 PM for all attendees.

Trail Leader Workshop and Chain Saw Safety

Indiana Trail Leader Round Table: (8:30-10:00AM)
This session is an opportunity for Trail Leaders from around the state to meet and share common successes and challenges. HMBA leadership will provide an overview of how HMBA can help at local trails and Trail Leaders can offer suggestions of how HMBA can help them. Woody Keen will can add his experiences from working with trail groups around the country.

    Chainsaw Safety (10:00-11:00AM):
Some Parks allow volunteers to operate chain saws. This really helped in 2008 as storms throughout the state brought a lot of trees down on our trails. Operating a Chainsaw carries more risk than most trail maintenance tasks. Craig Walker, Indiana Stihl Rep, will lead an hour long chain saw safety class. For some parks, safety training and proper safety gear will be required for chainsaw operation. This class is intended for those with experience using chainsaws and not sufficient to train some one who has never operated a chainsaw. (Always check with the trail leaders and park management before operating a chainsaw on public land)

    2009 Trail Building Equipment:
If you have a need for trail building equipment for 2009, please contact me (Paul A aka indytrekracer on the forums here) by February 10th. HMBA will attempt to provide tools as permitted by our 2009 budget. Common items are clinometers, rhinos, trail solutions books, and some power equipment. [email protected]

HMBA Programs: Local Clubs, Bike Patrol, and Kids Program (12:30-2:00PM)

As mountain biking gains momentum throughout the state, there will be an increased need for local groups to build and maintain trails, host events, educate new riders, and help new riders learn how to mountain bike. HMBA doesn't have all the answers how to best accomplish these things in every corner of the state. So join us and help determine the best way to organize on the State and Local level to support the future needs of Indiana mountain bikers.

Indiana DNR and Mountain Biking (3:00-4:30PM)

Mountain bikers have had a lot of success in the past few years gaining not just access, but fantastic new purpose build mountain bike / hike trails. A large part of this is due to the support we have had from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. This session will cover:
    Existing DNR related projects.
DNR trail projects in the works.
Open discussion on the possibility of MTB trails on State Land near you.

Town Run Winter Mayhem Ride (Second Annual)

Saturday January 24 9AM at Town Run.

Do you miss riding with your friends at the local trail?
Sick of sitting inside spinning away for hours on your trainer?
Does you mountain bike sniffle due to neglect everytime you walk by?
Do you need another excuse to come up to Indianapolis for the Beerfest on Saturday?

    Then come on out!

Think of it as a polar bear swim BUT without the water AND with clothes on!

The high is projected to only hit in the 20s on Saturday. Perfect for a ride.

A mass start Fun ride with riders off at 9:00AM.

There will be one award for "best dressed" rider!

There will be hot chocolate and coffee AND MARSHMALLOWS AND COOKIES for the afterride if you want to hang out in the parking lot for a little bit so bring warm clothes and blankets.

    Who's IN?

    Freeze / Thaw

Please remember that our trails are most vulnerable when they transition from frozen to thaw'd. The less damage to existing trails during the winter means more time to build new trails in the summer.

If you are leaving ruts, please leave the trail as quickly as possible and let others getting ready to ride that the trails are too muddy to be ridden.

From one flat land to another.

Advocate as if your ride depends on it...
