    Thunder Mountain Bike Park

I'm looking to hit Thunder Mountain on Monday (Columbus Day), and it's my first time doing the downhill bike park thing. A few quick questions. I'm an intermediate rider, but limited jump experience on a 2012 Trek Fuel 5 FS.

1.) I've been told my bike will do just fine. I ride clipless; should I switch to flats?
2.) Do you recommend renting and wearing armor? What's the key pieces?
3.) I normally ride with a CamelBak; should I drop it for the runs and just hydrate at the bottom?
4.) Any other particular pieces of advice? I've done KT a bunch of times and have ridden Kitchel and Jester; that's the extent of my DH experiences aside from standard trail riding.
5.) How much beer is needed to fully recover?

5 inch travel is barely enough to be fun. You'd have more fun with more... clipless vs flats is a personal choice, no right or wrong answer. Lose the camelback, extra weight flopping around on your back that you'll never use. Rent the full face helmet and pad package. There's enough beer available in the bar to help your recovery.

^^^^I agree with Harold. Yes, your bike is capable to take to Thunder Mtn, but it will limit you to some major fun factor and possibly even some of the trails depending on your experience. IMO, rent a true DH rig, pads and full face helmet, and go tear up the entire mtn with no worries. Renting a DH sled also keeps your primary mtn bike safe from being abused, especially after you've gotten used to it and start ripping it up later in the day.

Not sure if you ended up going or not, but I definitely recommend a downhill bike. I could have ridden most of it on my dirt jump bike, but it wouldn't be nearly as much fun.

Personally, I wear a full face, gloves and sometimes shin pads. I actually wear a Camelback at most parks - but here lots of guys just keep water bottles down by the trees by the ski trail map at the bottom.

Wicked fun park! I can't believe I didn't get there till the season was almost over.

Oh, and all the CTS trails have been blown in the last 2 weeks. Sure more have fallen, but the way finding should be easy enough

We'll be operating next weekend the 14th and 15th too. Too warm to blow snow, so we ride!
