Orange markers at Mill Pond Burlington

I was riding in the Res today and noticed orange ribbons tied to trees all over the place. It almost looked like a route of some sort because I know they can't develop in there. Anyone know what they are for?

I think Burlington Science Center goes there and marks places for nature study...vernal pools, other stuff so it is easy to locate for groups.
