Most of my riding is in Wendell SF, Bachelor St (Holyoke skinner sf) and the 'Long Ridge' Starts at Sugar North in Deerfield Runs To Poet's seat in Greenfield--tons of after work and early morning riding fun in here! DAR is fun--and I love the riding in and around the Yokun Ridge in Lennox.

I have a surly karate monkey and a salsa dos niner. The Fells is close to home so I ride there for pre- or post-work rides. I spend alot of time at Otis in Falmouth. Other usual spots included Blue Hills, Vietnam and occassionally Lynn, but i've hit none of those places since discovering harold parker and ward reservation this fall. I used to ride foxboro and Wretham state forest years ago when I worked in walpole.

Here's a pic of my steed. The Titus really rocks in this terrain. Light and stiff for 5" of fully active travel.

I hail from Rockport, MA. My stomping grounds are Lynn Woods, B&T's, Dogtown, and a bunch of other local North Shore trails.

    2004 Rocky Mountain Element 30:

only a couple upgrades. Shes been holding up very nicely.
    2006 Bianchi WUSS

just picked her up about a month ago from eBay for about half the original price. So far: amazing.

I live in Sharon, MA. Most of my riding takes place around Foxboro State Forrest, Borderland State park, and Blue Hills. But thats during the school year. I'm in Vermont all summer.

Whats up, Nathan. Actually thats an old pic. I had an rp3 originally and traded it for the dhx5 I have now. Just got the dhx5 back from PUSH, the ride is sweeter than ever. Had to send it in after blowing the rebound during the Wicked ride.

    Let's see,
[] I used to ride the North Shore and Lynn with Woodyak until I moved. Now I pretty much ride Otis, since it is right out my front door, and it really isn't that bad. It's alot like Kt , just tighter, with less climbing and no " rideable" freeride trail.
Since the pic I threw on a Pushed rp3, which is great compared to the Romic.

At 16 years old you may think I begged mama and dada for the previous two bikes but I earned the $$$ for both bikes working at International Bike in Newton. I mostly ride Hudson Park/Naked man because they are about a mile from my house. Problem is, no one I know who is my age is as dedicated, skilled, or educated in the fine art of all-mountain and xc mountain biking as I would have expected. Me and one other person I know go riding there a lot. If anyone rides the way I do in the Newton/Needham/Wellesley area, I would love to get an e-mail or pm. All the relatively experienced am/xc riders I know are planning a ride for fun sometime this summer. This includes most of the IBC employees w/bikes like Hecklers, Rocky Mountains, .....and Trek Liquids (I know, I know...don't ask) Anyone is open to come. Besides that, Im just looking for someone to ride with.

You wondered why my name was Intense5point5. Now you know. Got it yesterday and I will tell you that this bike is simply perfect. It is a bit early to say so but it inspires your riding confidence in so many ways. The medium (19" ST) fits me like a glove and I can do some crazy ****. With the relatively worn and outdated components currently installed, It still runs fine and weights 30lbs, 4oz. w/ the K2's old 7lb DJ forks. Expect a Fox Vanilla RLC, Industry Nine AM Wheelset, Red Middleburn cranks, XTR Front derailleur..etc... The works.

My primary riding buddies moved out west, so if you want to ride at Otis midweek (or weekends) send me a PM. I have also been riding less since I usually end up riding solo... so I go running instead.

My folks live in Warren VT, so I ride there in the summer, as well.

I ride around Boston and Saugus-Boston, I used to race a lot when I was younger then I went to boarding school in Idaho when I was 15 and rode a lot out there, but when I came back I drove and only really started riding in the city when I went to college. I am starting to get back into it, I also just discovered I am about 2 miles from the lynn woods, just I am on the opposite side of where everyone meets.. I don't really have a problem with the technical and almost never a problem with the technical downhill, but the endurance is what kills me. I used to live in Natick and BackBay so I know those areas decently well. If anyone wants to ride sometime in these areas feel free to PM me. Btw im 24 and dont really care what age you are race religion sexual preference what ever I dont care what you do as long as you dont push it on me.

this is a Giant Canyon limited I got after new years for 300 bucks off a coast guard guy that was leaving RI (craigslist). The lobster on the front is for easy identification and I think it makes it just ugly enough at 1st glance to make it less stolen in the city. They were giving them away in Copley as apart of a Nova Scotia travel thing.

This is a trek I got off a guy my dad works with that was going to china, it has those kinda cool lean forward forearm handle bars. The frame is to small for me though, Also the computer flew off it when it was on the trailer. so if you want the part I still have let me know

this is the part of the computer I still have =(

once again if you need this thing let me know I can give it to you in the city or at lynn woods event, or mail it locally. I don't want any money for it and I don't have any use for it.

Last but not least my old school Schwinn this was the 1st sweet spot design and one of the last USA made SchwinnsI have grown out the frame quite a bit it is a 17.5 I think If anyone is interested in it or its parts I accept trade goods and mula =) All kinds of stuff, make an offer I will accept just about anything or if you are broke I could probably hook you up with some parts. It has a nice set of Titec HellBent raiser bars I think they are 1 inch lift or maybe 1.5 I cannot remember. The front wheel is in way out in Sturbridge, I used the valve on the tube on a cagiva and forgot to put it back, or bring it back for that matter. This was my 1st Mt Bike and I have had it since new I think for 9 years now. The frame is good and would make a fun single speed project in the future. I like what Jason did with his trek Y frame I am thinking something along those lines. I have a huffy with V brakes under some crap too that guy that went to china gave me too. But other then the brakes that bike is total crap. I don't see me having much do for it in the near future so if anyone wants it that will actually use it in the area I am up for letting it go for like 20 bucks, or trade for something random like a bottle of some Rhine area wine. I have had the bike for ever and would really like to see someone be able to get half the fun out of it that it has given me.

That's right. I sold the 575 this winter. Loved the ride, but wanted something different. I used the money from the sale to buy a used Salsa FS frame (not yet built) and the Evil (SWEET!!!!). I actually almost got a 456, but the deal on the Sovereign was too hard to pass up. Do you still have your Yeti?

Welcome to MA - the riding here is great. PM me if you ever ride in the Boston area.

Nice bike. Welcome to MA. The Fells kind of blows. Most of the good trails are banned by the hiking nazis. Lynn Woods rules. You'll also need to check out Harold Parker and Vietnam. You'll also want to do some summer road trips to Exeter/Ft.Rock, Kingdom Trails, Highland, etc.

    Cheers!

Good stuff. Are there any group rides around those spots? In other words, I hate to ride alone as I get lost frequently  .

By the way, I have a road trip lined up to Rays in Cleveland on Feb. 28. Super pumped.

Yeah, group rides galore. You'll see postings once stuff gets ride-able. Local trail knowledge is key around here. Stuff isn't marked too well and there are too many rabbit trails to get sucked into.

Since I broke the ML I figured I'd update things. The ML was nice but not up to the thrashing that I gave it. I've been on the El Guapo since last June and this thing is tremendous. It's a much better fit for my style of riding and these trails:thumbsup:

As you wish. I went over to HP for about an hour today. Was pretty fun, though tiring and very hot. Here are some pics. My first time out on the trails.

Slightly over-exposed cause I accidentally left my camera in manual mode and didn't adjust anything. Adjusted it best I could with my amatuer skills.

    Jenkins lot gate.

Ouch. My first battle wound. Happened less than ten minutes in. Those Kona pedals hurt.

    Ouch!

HP is a bit technical for a first ride. Still, it's one of my fave places. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

BTW - I find Great Brook Farm to be a great place for beginners. Fun, but less techie, you should give it a shot.

I mostly ride this Maverick ML7:

Just got it this spring, and love it to death. It's a lot dirtier now than in the photo.

I do most of my riding at the Fells, simply because it's really close to home and I can get there pretty quick without having to drive.

I agree that Great Brook is a good spot for beginners. It's got some easy-but-fun stuff, and some optional tougher stuff when you're ready to step it up. And compared to a lot of New England trails, its pretty well mapped and marked. I go there from time to time because it's a fun laid-back ride, and I know the trail system pretty well so I can go ride for a few hours without having to consult a map or hunt around to find the good stuff.

Otis is pretty cool, but too far away to be worth the trip to me -- except in the winter when it's the only place not snowed over. (Actually, some of the Great Brook trails are open to bikes year round, and are a lot of fun in the winter once the snowshoers and hikers have packed the snow down a bit.)

I really like what I've seen of Harold Parker and Lynn Woods, but I don't know those trail systems so well, and recently I haven't been in the mood to put effort into learning a new area. So I usually just hit the Fells.
  • 07-20-2008
    Eric Baker
Thx I'll have to try Great Brook sometime soon. Yeah there were some spots I hit that were well above my skill lvl, and I got quite lost as to lack of markers. But I did have fun.

I have 4 bikes, one road and 3 MTB to choose from. I ride mostly on trails in Fitchburg(Burbank Hospital trail area), and my running club did a trail race up Lynn Woods the other night- so I rode up the fire roads with one of my Cannondales to get pictures

I work in North Reading- so I gotta get into Harold Parker- I hear its sweet stuff. Someone took my into Leominster State Forest- from the upper end of Parmenter Road(off Elm St), and did a bunch of small trails on both sides of Parmenter. I wasn't really ready for that stuff- but I'd try it again.

    I have a 1994 Cannondale Delta-V 500
    a 1999 Schwinn HomeGrown
    a 1999 Cannondale F4000
    a 2005 Lemond Sarthe

I try to ride each of them as a part of my daily commute as well. I park near I-495/Rt 38 in Lowell and ride down rt 38 and back roads to work. For some reason- I seem to have more fun and be more comfortable on the old Cannondale Delta-V.

Right now, I ride a Trek 3900, no mods except accessories that have nothing to do with performance. I live in Shrewsbury, and ride in all the towns surrounding here, Tend to explore new areas allllll the time, high power lines, and any state forests/reservoirs when possible.

I'm in the market for a new HT jumper MTB, but heres my current setup from about 6 months ago(only pic I got of her)

Cape Cod here. Getting back into biking after years of lame or no riding. Live near the Trail of Tears and have been there twice in the last week. Bike is a '99 C'dale Raven 700SX with Spinergy wheels and 6 bolt Avid mechanical brakes. Thinking of a new bike, but will wait a bit. Photo taken this morning near the "highest elevation in Barnstable".

Another new rider (at least mtb-wise... I've been road-biking around the area quite a bit). Just got a Motobecane Outcast 29er (a single speed hardtail) delivered yesterday. It's assembled and I took it out for a shakedown run around the Turtle Pond area in W. Roxbury/Hyde Park because it's biking-distance from my house. Hoping to try it out Saturday on some real rides. I've got a friend on the north shore, so thinking maybe Dogtown.

You are smack in the middle of some good riding - Lincoln Woods in RI and Freetown State Forest in MA.

I really don't want to come off as holier than thou or a narc, but are you in touch with the land managers/owners where you are blazing trails? If not, it's a good way to get a promising riding area shut down.

I'd check out these sites for more places to ride and help building trails:

    RI NEMBA

    Happy Trails

    Nice bike!

How's that Ikon treating you on the front? I have one on the rear of my HT, and have been thinking about running it up front, but worry about the lack of cornering knobs.

BTW - It looks like your chain could be shortened a link or so. Might cut down on some chain slap.

Antonio - The Ikons are riding nice for me, I have not noticed any issues with losing traction in the front on hard corners but I don't yet have a lot of miles on the bike. I also tend to run whatever tires I have and don't experiment much. This is my first time with a 29er and tubeless so I am still figuring out tire pressures and overall handling,

Thanks for the tip on dropping a link - have not noticed chain slap yet but will keep an eye on it.

There's some GREAT riding in the Beverly/Manchester/Gloucester area. Greenwood ave is very close to the Beverly Farms stop. Gspot is a couple miles from the Manchester stop. B&Ts is very close to the West Gloucester stop. I'm not sure exactly how, but I'm fairly certain you can ride from Beverly to Gloucester on almost all singletrack. So you could take the train to Beverly ride to Gloucester and take the train back. Pretty sweet

Willowdale is also only a couple miles from the Ipswich station.
