Caution; Merge; Workers Ahead! Lynn Woods Trail Day - Sept 15th

On Saturday September 15, 2007, Dieselbikes will be holding our forth of five Trail Maintenance days in Lynn Woods. This trail day has been approved by the Lynn Woods Park Management. On Saturday we will be build a wooden ladder bridge to cross a section of swamp located on Overlook Trail. This trail day will be hard work and we will require a ton of volunteers to complete the job on Saturday. The trail work site is off of OX Pasture road but will require a 15 minute walk out to the work area from the Ballfield parking lot. Here is what you need to know:

    Start Time and Meeting Place:

Everyone should meet at the Ballfield parking lot at 9:00am. We will be leaving the parking lot by 9:20 after a trail safety/work review meeting and head to the job site. If you can not make it there by 9:20, come any way and just ride or walk out to the work site. We will put you to work when you get their.

    Estimated Project Time:

We accept this project to take 5 hours to complete. We may have a group ride after the trail day, but this is weather/time dependent, so bring your bike.

    What to Bring:

Bring your own bug spray, food, water, pair of work gloves and eye protection. Weather is always questionable, so dress appropriately. Bring your bike is encouraged but always optional. Please remember, at this point in time Dieselbikes does not have the funds to provide lunch. It is suggested you bring your own food, snacks water and/or drink.

What WE are going to do:

A section (highlighted in blue) of Overlook Trail runs through a wet area that becomes flooded during heavy rain and stays muddy most of the year. To reduce and/or eliminate environment damage, we plan on building a wooden ladder bridge to span the section(s) of wet areas. This trail day will lay the ground work for next year’s continuing repairs of Overlook Trail.

All material for both bridges will be pre-cut with section pre-drilled for quick and easy assembly. Dieselbikes will also bring all the lumber for these bridges to the work site (as close as possible) prior to the trail day. We want to limit the amount of lumber carrying by volunteers, but some of this will be necessary. All volunteers will need to carry tools (hammers, picks, shovels etc) to and from the work site along with water.

This will be a labor intensive day and tools will be provided for this work day. If you have your own personal tools you rather work with, feel free to bring them, but you are responsible for your own property.

Please PM or e-mail ([email protected]) if you need further information.

Just a quick update for this upcoming September 15 trail day in Lynn Woods.

All material for the bridges (96 feet worth) has been purchased, delivered and signed for. All the lumber has been pre-measured and pre-cut for easier assembly out in the field. Dieselbikes will be hauling the lumber out to the trail work site this week so we will not need to complete this function on the trail work day.

For whom ever decides to volunteer, all you will need to carry is some tool and what ever else you bring. See all who can make it…remember, its rain or shine.
