landlocked forest - Trail paralleling Rt3 deliberate blockage?
So was with my son and riding at landlocked this morning. We climbed to the top of the power lines and then took the trail that parallels Rt3 down towards the gas line. About half way down the trail someone has placed a huge amount of branches and trash blocking the trail for about 100 feet. It looks like riders and hikers have blazed a new trail to continue on and around this blockage.

So is this an official change to the route or, eek!, a deliberate act of eco-terrorism? (hard to imagine in Burlington but you never known ;-P )

I do know there was an alternate route built last year. The trail you describe had lots of issues with drainage and bad design. Last I know it was still an open trail.

that trail name was 'fair game'

it was blocked due to erosion. it has a bypass right next to it and parallel so use
the bypass and leave the blocked part blocked

no trail was lost as a complete same-length go-round exists

The trail you speak of is known as "Fair Game". It has major seasonal water problems. We put in the new trail that you can use that is longer and winds through the forest up the hill from it but we did not close down Fair Game as some people do like it. I noticed the attempt to close down the old trail and someone hacked in a trail right next to it, which may or may not also develop water problems as it is essentially in the same drainage. I also noticed someone has collected a pile of trash, which is great except it would be even better to then haul it out instead of leaving the pile of trash right on the trail.

If you're interested in helping maintain the trails at LLF sustainably, we will be having some regular trail work days there this spring and summer, I will post here but also keep an eye on http://www.nemba.org/gbnemba

^^^ eyah the go-round for Fair Game I mentioned is not the brand new twisty that was built a while ago, this one is exactly parallel to the now blocked -fair game-

I noticed that trail last week. It is just to the left and a little higher up than the muddy area.

The go around seems alright. It just needs to get burnt in a bit. Still better than that horrible twisty trail.
