    Deer ticks @ Harold Parker

    5/5/12

3 out of 5 of us came home from Andover w/ a deer tick.
We had a lengthy repair ... pretty sure that's when they attached.

    Definitely a deer tick.

Here it is in my 60x microscope:

I was in harold parker two weeks ago and after a mile I had collected 2 just riding in the middle of a fairly wide trail and not brushing up on anything. They were definitely visible but also enough to keep me out of there since. I've since ridden willowdale, and lynn a few times and come out unscathed.

Bugs in general but especially ticks are bad this year. I have found one on me almost every weekend the past few months after a ride. We typically ride 3+ hours all single track in HP, LDT, Lynn, School ST, B&T's and Beverly. Mild winter is good and bad, didn't kill off enough of the critters.

My buddy had one jump on for a ride in Lynn yesterday, luckily he felt it before it decided to dine...
It's bad everywhere, but hp may be the worst. Stay on your bike and do a body check every post ride.

Ticks are bad everywhere this year, some spots more than others,

Take it from someone who was there, YOU DO NOT WANT LYME.

Use Permethrin on your clothing, shoes, and pack.
Use DEET-based insect repellents on exposed skin. A 25%-30% solution works super from my experience. I mix 2 ounces of 100% DEET with 6 ounces of 4.7% DEET "OFF! Skintastic" pump spray repellent for a 28% solution that works great.

Got one myself at Willowdale this weekend too. Felt something moving in my scalp. I grabbed it before it dug in.

It had a red body and was way smaller than I expected - but it still had that telltale body shape.

Ticks have been a growing problem in the NorthEast for a while now with no let up in site.

People, maybe there is a need here for a different style riding pant, similiar to baggy shorts with full length legs.

Write to your favorite riding clothes manufacturer to get them on board and see what is offered.

just a suggestion, I just wrote to Rocgarden

    Enjoy the trails

    Permethrin and Lemon Eucalyptus

I did lots of reading. This is what is advised....

    For clothes: Permethrin
Amazon.com: Sawyer Premium Permethrin Clothing Insect Repellent Trigger Spray, 24-Ounce: Sports & Outdoors

And this works great for the skin:

Cool. I'll check myself again... That's what you guys get for helping to clear the trail of that fallen tree.
