    Callahan Pipeline trail tree cutting

I don't ride Callahan often but was there today and the Pipeline trail is being cleared of trees. There were stumps on both sides all up and down the trail. Anyone know what's up. Maybe the gas lines have something to do with it. It almost looks like they maybe prepping to put powerlines up. Either way it sucks

I was wondering that myself. Seems like a broad area to cut down to keep a pipeline clear, but it wouldn't be the first time the utility companies were a bit heavy handed with the tree clearing.
It's sad that access for mountain bikes can be controversial in certain areas when in just a few days, 100's of acres of woods can be clear cut.

Yes, the clear cutting on Pipeline at Callahan South was due to gas line access and it's an abysmal process they took. Not that the Pipeline trail is anything close to sustainable or well-built, but they may as well have used napalm.

I met with SVT a few weeks back and discussed this, as well, and there was talk of going back in to do some trail work and try to prep the ground to grow back properly.
