    Biking in Natick

I will be escorting my wife to Natick for one day and while she is working, I would like to ride.

Does anyone know of any nice places to ride ?

    Thanks

You could check out Callahan State Park in Framingham. http://www.mass.gov/dcr/parks/northeast/call.htm.

Park at the Wayland Library and follow the "rail trail" tracks East. Follow the tracks straight through Weston into Waltham; about 5 miles or so. Rail trail ends at a rusted, abandoned truss bridge, can't miss it.

Double back and try any of the dozens of side trails. There are well over 1k acres of fire roads and singletrack right there. This is significantly larger than Callahan, and I never really see anybody out there. It is possible to get from these trails to Walden Pond and Lincoln Woods crossing only 2-3 roads.

When you go off the "rail trail" onto these side trails, be aware that it is very very easy to get lost. It's Good xc riding, nothing very challenging. Bring a camera and gps and enjoy.

    Natick area

That sounds like it would be right up my alley! Looking to ride and love variations but not looking for really challenging stuff, not a kid but an avid rider.

Me and my 29er will love that area, thanks so much for the reply!!

    When are you going?

Rocky Narrows in Sherbon is fun with a nice mix of trails that are not to difficult and you can kill an hour or 2 just poking around. This is a Trustees of the Reservation property and there should be maps at either entrance. I ride and run there fairly often since it's so close to me.

There are 2 entrances. One on Rt 27 on the left coming from Natick/Sherbon Ctr. (hit Rt 115 and you've gone to far)

The other is off Forest St. in Sherbon

    Don't startle the bears

Weston police today warned residents by telephone that a small black bear has been sighted in town. A young bear, weighing about 150 pounds, has been reported near the Wayland town line, then near Waltham, and twice this morning near the Massachusetts Turnpike, police said.

Black bears also have been sighted since Sunday in Wayland and Sudbury.
