2017-2018 good pond ice found in Ma ?

just wondering if anyone is riding ponds that have frozen hard enough. I know concord river has skimmed over but is way too risky, but any ponds solid enough yet, or still too much risk of warm water seeps ?

I would venture a guess that it's still too early, despite the cold temps. I've read of two local instances of people falling through ice in the last few days.

I generally wait till I see snowmobile tracks on ice before venturing out.

Never trust moving water, stick to lakes and ponds. If you are not familiar with the area, do as jack suggests and wait for other people to signal if the ice is safe. Ice fisherman are another good gauge. They can tell you exactly how thick the ice is.

Both Houghton and Ponkapoag Ponds at Blue Hills had bike tracks on them while there this weekend.

Puds Pond and Leach Pond in Borderland State Park are frozen over and rideable - we did Puds Pond last night.
They are both Stream fed ponds, so just stay away from the entry points of the streams and you'll be all set.2017-2018 good pond ice found in Ma ?-screen-shot-2018-01-03-9.46.54-am.jpg

    Yes, I did!

I got out this week on Wequaquet Lack down here on the Cape. The ice was plenty thick. There were ice fisherman out there and they had pieces at least 8 inches thick.

Just heard that the trails are an icy crusty mess. Was gonna go down and ride Sunday but I don't ride on ice. We have a two foot base of snow at home so getting trails prepped for next weeks riding it will be. Riding was unreal daily until yesterday's storm. Wednesday was tops.

Spy Pond in Arlington had ice skaters and a few brave souls on road bikes on it earlier this week before the storm, apparently it's 8 inches thick ice.

We rode Island Creek and North Hill ponds in Duxbury today. Fishermen said the ice is 10-12" thick.

I'd call it 92%. Even with most having fat studs, puckerfest. Rode on Stearns pond, HP yesterday. Ice was 3-8" thick. That clear ice still freaks me out though.

    ^yup

saw a ton of 45deg scrapes and was wondering gee can't anyone ride straight? ...then as I got bolder I realized the ice is in control here. had many front and back near washouts...I only biffed it once, then rest of the ride was rightly puckered (dillinger 4, 26 inch, stock studded)

Sorry! Here's one from today up my way. No ice, skinny tires fine without studs for trails and off trail Krusty Kruizing.
