Perfomance Bike - Marin RiftZone 1 good deal?

This will be my first bike, my local performance bike has the riftzone for a great deal I think - $1085
I was going to get the hawk hill but they only have the medium, should I get the medium? I am 6 feet.

Also, worried if the 29er will feel too big and not nimble enough.

I am a beginner and the trails are not very technical around here.
The other bikes that I was looking at was the Diamondback release 1, but with the money I can save, I think i can use it to buy dropper post, helmet, gloves etc.

    Any owners wanna chime in.

I don't think you can go wrong with either bike, having ridden both and as a new owner of a Rift Zone. The Rift Zone is a more cross-country oriented bike while the Hawk Hill is more of an enduro bike. The Rift Zone feels like a faster handling bike to me having a bit shorter wheelbase, steeper head angle and shorter fork trail.

At 6 ft. tall, you definitely need a large in either bike. Good luck.

I think either bike will work even though I have never ridden a Hawk Hill. I have a Rift Zone 3, but use it more than just a Trail Bike. I take it on technical, rocky trails and it works just as well as my 27.5 bike I had before. I have a 150mm travel fork on the front for bigger hits and also to slacken out the head angle. I plan on riding it in some Enduro races this year and can't wait to see how it does.

I would say that if you are riding in areas that are not very technical you should go for the Rift Zone. The 29" wheels like to roll fast.

As for size, I am 5' 10" and ride a Large. It's a little longer than I am used to, but I have a 35mm stem with 800mm wide bars which makes it comfortable for me.

Sachem6, did you do a custom build or just swap parts?

I custom built it. Somebody was selling just the frame on pinkbike. I transferred most of the parts from my 27.5" bike over to it. It's got a dropper post on it now.
