New question here. Anyone else encounter this? '13 XC7 frame.

Purchased the bike in January and have probably ridden 20/25 times since then, at least 4 times a month averaging around 17 miles per ride. I'm in the saddle most of the time, never jump but do plow through some rooty and rocky sections. I'm 6' and 225 lbs. if that gives perspective.

Last weekend I was 3 miles into a ride and had just crested a rooty hill after speeding down the hill prior when a loud snap followed by an uncontrollable bike happened. See the pics of the carnage.

Marin is looking over the photos and hopefully a replacement frame will be sent soon. Three other riders in my group have Marins, of the same year. One is the XC8, one XC6 and two XC7's including myself. The other riders in the group are much harder on bikes than I am yet this happens to me.

Anyways, just curious if anyone else out there has seen a frame break in this manner.

Same exact failure happened to my 2013 Mt. Vision frame last Dec. I'm 6'2" and go about 240-250 lbs. Let's face it most frames are designed for the average sized rider. For clydesdales, they should have some stronger frame options like extra gussets or something. Anyway, I have had 3 Marin frames break in the last 4 years. I have not had a problem getting warranty replacements thankfully.

Yeah, most companies are building frames for the 150-200lb fully geared rider crowd. You are close to 250 geared up. At least they will send you a new frame.

Check your rear shock for damage to the air canister. Mine got dented in. Luckily I had an older Fox Float that was the same dimensions and close to the same tune. Warranty usually does not cover incidentals, like shocks, bolts, wheel spacing and skewer updates. My latest frame ('13 MV Pro) came in with a 142 x 12 rear end while my previous ('12 MV Pro) had a 135 x 9 rear end. Luckily, the rear end pivot mounting points were identical, I was able to swap to the old rear end to save some money.

The dealer that currently has the bike says that Marin ships the warranty frame with the rear shock included? The one on my bike is trashed and dented in. Also, I find it alarming that these frames are build for people under 200lb's but oh well.

Wow, obviously that should not happen, but you must have been putting a lot of stress on the seat tube.

WOW....you were not harmed? But i'm sure it were a few akward moments... Hopefully Marin will take care of you. This shouldn't happen and clearly looks like a warranty case. Did you see any damage or cracks or noises before it happend? I have a 2013 XM7 which I guess uses the same linkage and tubes....for sure I will keep an eye on the seattube now. Although I'm only 170lb's I wouldn't like to expirience this riding the Alps...

Damn! I have the XM8 and about 200lbs before getting geared up I might need to slim down a little. Out of curiosity what setting was the rear shock on. I think even on climb you shouldn't have problems like this.

This really worries me since I have the same bike and weigh roughly the same as you do. I also jump and tend to stand and hammer when climbing. Only have a dozen rides on it since I picked it up. Guess I will keep an eye on it.

How Moses! I finally found someone else who had the same failure I had yesterday on my 2013 XC-8 at China Camp! Climbing Bayshore I heard a lound "SPRANG" and had the same failure. Wasn't descending or even standing on the pedals. I'm working with the dealer and will hopefully get a a replacement. Didn't hurt my top tube, and this happened after about 75 rides on the the bike.

No problems yet with my '13 XM8, and I'm only about 150#, but these reports do not inspire confidence.
