    Vintage lights that work?

    Hi All,

Am the proud new owner of the famed Flying Pigeon, the original Chinese working-man/woman's utility bike. Using it as my townie/quick grocery run/heading out for beers with friends bike, and it ROCKS

But, as with many things classic/vintage, there are some opportunities for upgrades. In this case, the cheap, old, generator front light has crapped out, and even when it worked it didn't show you much beyond your front tire.

Are there any brands of generator light that...

    1) don't require a new hub (i.e. still use some sort of wheel-driven dynamo),
    2) actually throw a decent amount of light,
    3) don't look like something from Star Trek. I mean, I would kind of like to keep some semblance of vintage look to this thing - I just want to see where I'm going at night.

I've searched a bit, and admittedly perhaps not very effectively, but I haven't found anything specific to this question yet.

    Thanks for any help,

    E

theycallmeE, have a word with Znomit on the DIY Lights forum, he's the man to ask when it comes to generator powerd lights.

Great bike BTW I can see why you want to keep things authentic.

    Eureka!

    Thanks for your thoughts, all!

Yes, yetibetty, I'm having more fun riding the Pigeon than any of the other bikes I've purchased at 10-times the cost!

So, in surfing around I found a FANTASTIC resource in Peter White Cycles...

    http://www.peterwhitecycles.com/

These guys rock in terms of info/photos of tons of lighting options. They hooked me up with a cool Busch & Muller Lumotec Retro with a nice halogen bulb and snappy little mondern dynamo.

Very friendly and helpful! I recommend them highly Cheers,

    E
