Two MagicShine 900 questions - rain and low battery

How well does the Magicshine 900 deal with rain? Any mods that help?

When the battery gets low does it just shut off, or does it go into low mode?

    Thanks

The lighthead is waterproof, or nearly so. There is an o-ring on the bezel which keeps out moisture. The battery pack on the old MS900 required some DIY to waterproof, but the new model houses the entire pack in an aluminum can. The lid of the can screws off, and just like the lighthead has a rubber o-ring that keeps the water out. FWIW, I've ridden mine through last winter rain or shine and I've never had a problem.

As for the battery, when it gets low the power button on the lighthead will go from glowing green to glowing red or orange. That means you have about 15 minutes more of light on high. If you switch it to low power, you can get up to 45 minutes of light.

I just received my second magicshine which has the new massive battery pack. I have no idea why they decided to make the new battery thingy approximately twice the size of the old one, but perhaps it will serve as a flotation device in the event I fall into a very large puddle during a rainstorm.

Did you have the old battery pack or the new one? I have the old model, which is just a 4x18650 battery pack wrapped in heat-shrink tubing. Definitely not waterproof on the old model, but I fixed that by taping mine up with black electrical tape. The new battery pack is the same shrink-wrapped package but contained inside an aluminum can with a threaded cap sealed with a silicone o-ring.
