    Twin XPG headlight

    Here is my latest headlight - twin XPG's with regina reflectors in a homemade alloy housing.

    There are 2 resistors in the middle bit (which is a small plastic box from Maplin), a 0.5 ohm giving something like 900mA on high and a 10 ohm giving something like 200mA on low.

    Powered by a 2 cell pack on the back of the helmet.

    I did try running it without any resistor on high, it pulled 1.2A and got incredibly hot to the touch so the resistor went in to keep things a bit cooler.

    I am very happy with the home anodising - the finish came our really well.

    Construction details if you please? Particularly, what is the center section made from. It looks like you have it wrapped in a piece of innertube.

    The centre box is the minature one of these - and yes well spotted there is an inner tube sleeve over it to help protect it from knocks, it does look a bit scrappy so I will probably cut it off.

    The barrels are turned from alloy tube with a small lip at the front to retain the perspex and the 'o' ring.

    The XPG are on stars and sit on a heatsink made out of alloy bar, which is held in the barrel by the hollow tube which passes through the center box.

    I should have got some photos before it went together!!
