    RED, RED-Orange XP-E tail lights

I saw data sheets for cree xp-e leds in color.

Looks quite good. I am already thinking about new tail light builds with these. The 10mm carclo squares and 20mm round triples along with some electrical voodoo would be nice. A flashing circuit for alternating color or beam angles. 60 lumens form a red-orange device at 350ma is much better than a luxeon rebel. I am picturing something resembling a light bar that is the size of a 18650 battery with a 18650 battery behind it.

3 10mm carclo squares in a line a Blinking UI constant current regulator in the same line and then a small switch. It could all be stuffed into some 3/4" 19mm box tubing or milled out of 3/4" 19mm barstock.

Been wanting to build something with those XPEs as well. Cutter has been out of them for a while now.
Do you know of another source???

I like the idea, I ended up with a few of these little housings when I was learning/practicing on my micro lathe and they make great XP-e tail lights(driver in battery pack).

It has to be done for the pleasure of making things though, as we all know you can get a good ready made tail light for next to nothing these days.

I use an external battery as an 18650 or two fits just nice between the saddle rails.

A litle bigger and they would hold a micropuck

Yes I've been watching cutter for the red XPs too.

On the same subject what battery and regulators are people using for tail lights?

I have really only used DX boards which are unreliable and run hot.

I thinking about this for the project posted above.

Hmmm, they look pretty good, especially the multi mode, 3 Hz is probably quite good, assuming they work( the feedback isn't very positive on this).
